The American Society of Human Genetics will be hosting a special High School Workshop on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, from 8:30 to 2:30 at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu. This is a great opportunity for students to meet genetic researchers and have a fun day exploring genetics.  Breakout sessions include Senses and Variation Newborn Screening, Personal Genomes, Family History, DNA Isolation, and Speciation in Island Habitats.  University of Hawaii professor Rebecca Cann is the featured speaker of the plenary session “Peopling of the Pacific.” The workshop is free and breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Schools must provide their own transportation.  The workshop is limited to 150 students plus teachers.
